About Mrs. Garcia...
I am Mrs. Garcia, and welcome to my PLTW classes. This year, I am teaching Design and Modeling (Benton Middle School) and I spend the rest of my time on special assignment as the NLMUSD Project Lead the Way Coordinator. As we continue to grow our K-12 PLTW program, I am excited about the remarkable experiences that our programs offer, and I look forward to an engaging and fun year.
I graduated from Royal High School in Simi Valley, CA. After serving more than six years in the United States Navy as a Cryptologic Technician (Maintenance), I graduated from Chapman University in Orange, CA, with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science, and from Walden University with a Masters of Science in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. Today, I hold four teaching credentials: Multiple Subjects, Foundational Science, Biology, and Industrial Arts/Technology Education. I have also completed training to become certified to teach the Gateway curriculum from Project Lead the Way, an engineering program that includes instruction in Automation and Robotics, Design and Modeling, Energy and the Environment, the Science of Technology, the Magic of Electrons, and Flight and Space, Medical Detectives, Introduction to Computer Science I (now called App Creators) and II, Innovators and Makers, and Introduction to Engineering Design. I am also certified as a Launch Lead Teacher for the elementary Program.
In 2014, I was selected by PLTW as a Master Teacher. This means that I work with prospective PLTW teachers at universities across the country to prepare them to teach the course during the summer months, and I provide mentoring support for PLTW teachers during the school year. Due to my work with the Project Lead the Way organization, along with our NLMUSD students, I was awarded PLTW California and PLTW National Gateway Teacher of the Year as well as the California State Assembly's 57 District's Woman of the Year in 2017.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. Mr. Garcia and I spend time with our kids, doing things like going to the movies, eating out, and lots of visits to Disneyland! (My favorite rides are Guardians of the Galaxy, the Incredicoaster, and Space Mountain!) We have several pets that we care for, including our dog Gracie, our Cat Chloe, and our gecko, Viviann (Not to mention the ducks, lizards, squirrels, possums, and raccoons that visit our yard on occasion!) We also love spending time with our grandsons, Hudson and Flynn.
